Teaching Adult Learners
Do you teach adult learners?
Is it your thing?
Or do you dread those classes?
It seems like there have never been more adults who are looking to take up an instrument for the first time, or to return to music lessons after having given up playing for ten or twenty years. It’s brilliant. And it’s brilliant for you as a teacher – more students, therefore more income.
But teaching adults is a different ball game. It’s a completely proposition from teaching children. Yes, you might be able to use the same curriculum – so what you teach will be the same. But it’s HOW you teach it that requires a complete re-think. In other words you need to re-think your pedagogy. In fact – pedagogy is not even the right word. Andragogy is, in fact, the word used to define the method and practice of teaching adult learners.
So, let’s talk Andragogy.
